I am so excited to be sharing a new printable pack that I have created specifically for Montessori Bloggers Network readers! This printable pack contains a special theme for me – 4th of July or American Independence Day themed printables!
This printable pack contains several educational and fun activities that you can use to introduce kids to the United States and the 4th of July even if they are as young as two or three years old!
Pre-reading cards
One of my son’s favourite types of works at the moment is using simple pre-reading cards. Because of this, I knew I had to include beautiful images of the United States in this printable pack. These cards are a simple way to show children the lush beauty of various places in the United States, as well as several historically pertinent monuments that are relevant to the holiday.
Tips for use:
- Print two copies of the cards and laminate
- Present the cards in two piles (I use two bowls or plates on a tray)
- Ask child to match the cards
- Have a conversation about the images they see
- If you have a younger child, you can present only 2-3 images at a time. My son is now two and a half years old and can happily match all or most of the images in one go depending on his interest level in this work.
Cutting practice or patterning
My toddler loves practicing using his scissors! Whenever he discovers a new skill that he enjoys working on, I like to make additional works that focus exactly on letting his practice that skill. This is a very important aspect of Montessori style education – taking the lead from your child. The work below provides a fun way for kids to practice either cutting paper and/or patterning.
Tips for use:
- These printables can be used to create a cutting practice or patterning work.
- To use as cutting practice, print the images below and cut along the solid lines. Let your child cut the images out along the dotted lines.
- To use as patterning practice, print the images below twice and cut out each fruit image separately. Laminate if you choose for extra durability. Create a pattern and ask your child to replicate.
Interactive counting cards
This is another great work to get kids using their hands while simultaneously working on learning their numbers! This printable can be used in multiple ways to help little ones see number quantities in a fun, Fourth of July themed way!
Tips for use:
- Print the cards below and laminate (if you want) for extra durability.
- Ask your child to order the cards from largest to smallest or smallest to largest to practice counting.
- Using a manipulative, play dough, or the additional images below, have the child lay out the corresponding quantity on each of the blank number cards.
Size sorting cards
Size sorting is a great way for toddlers, preschoolers, and older children to practice their math skills! These US themed cards are fun for doing just that!
Tips for use:
- Print the cards below and laminate for extra durability
- Ask your child to place the cards in order from largest to smallest and/or vice versa
